Welcome to Frederiksborg Castle !
Frederiksborg Castle (Danish: Frederiksborg Slot) is a palatial complex in Hillerød, Denmark. It was built as a royal residence for King Christian IV of Denmark-Norway in the early 17th century. The Castle replaced an older castle acquired by Frederick II and became the largest Renaissance residence in Scandinavia. Frederiksborg Castle is situated on three islets in the Slotssøen (castle lake) and has a large formal garden in the Baroque style.
Frederiksborg Castle is the first Danish castle which was built inland. All previous castles had built on the coast or close to ports and the sea. It was also a first castle built for purely recreational purposes and not for defence.
