Holiday in the town of Yessentuki and a walk to the town of Pyatigorsk
We spent a great holiday in the town of Yessentuki which is situated in Stavropol region of Russia. A travel from Moscow takes more than 30 hours by train.
The town is famous because springs of mineral waters and Mud Cure Clinic named after Semashko N. A.
A lot of people visit Yessentuki each year. Mostly they are retired or a company on which they work has a sanatorium here. Some people cover all costs including accomodation for themselves.
The nature here is wonderful, the air is clear and holidaymakers can enjoy local cuisine, fresh fruit, vegetables from farmer market.
For someone the town may seems boring with not many things to do or places to see. That is because people arrive in Yessentuki to improve their health and get needed medical treatment.
Local mineral waters are good for treatening stomach ilnesses.
A walk to the town of Pyatigorsk
One day we decided to walk to Pyatigorsk and enjoy views from Mount Mashuk that is main attraction of the town. The distance between Yessentuki and Pyatigorsk we walked was around 20km. And 20km we walked back to Yessentuki.
On our way to Pyatigorsk we observed beautiful landscapes.
Both towns are in bad condition. Roads were terrible. Yessentuki and Pyatigork are poor towns.
Mount Mashuk is 993m high. Slopes of the mount are covered with forests.
One interesting fact: the duel between famous Russian poet Mikhail Lermontov and Nikolai Martynov took place at the foot of Mount Mashuk in 1841.
