Rotterdam is a city in the Netherlands, in South Holland within the Rhine–Meuse–Scheldt River delta at the North Sea. Its history goes back to 1270. Rotterdam was granted city rights by the Count of Holland n 1340.
Rotterdam is Europe's largest port, a major logistic and economic centre, and has the second-largest population in the Netherlands. Amsterdam is the most populated city in the country.
There are a number of must - see architecture constructions in Rotterdam.
1. The Erasmus Bridge (Dutch: Erasmusbrug) is a bridge in the centre of Rotterdam, connecting the north and south parts of this city, second largest in the Netherlands. The bridge was named after Desiderius Erasmus a.k.a. Erasmus of Rotterdam. The 802-metre-long (2,631 ft) bridge across the New Meuse River was designed by Ben van Berkel and completed in 1996.
2. Euromast is an observation tower in Rotterdam, designed by Hugh Maaskant and constructed between 1958 and 1960. It has an observation platform 96 m (315 ft) above-ground and a restaurant.
3. The Cube Houses. There are 38 small cubes and two so called 'super-cubes', all attached to each other.
4. The Markthal (English: Market Hall) is a residential and office building with a market hall underneath. The building was opened on October 1, 2014. Besides the large market hall, the complex has 228 apartments, 4600 m2 retail space, 1600 m2 horeca and an underground 4-storey parking with a capacity of 1200+ cars.
One of very interesting places in the city is The Restaurant De Ballentent, which is situated between Euromast and The Erasmus Bridge. And where you can order a good lunch and enjoy a wonderful atmosphere and views of New Meuse River.
There are so many very modern buildings in Rotterdam. Sometimes the city looks like a city from the future.
Welcome to the one of the most stunning cities in the world !
